A 74-year-old Alberta man has died of injuries he suffered this week in a construction accident.

The man was hurt Wednesday afternoon when he was struck by a section of wall that was being built at a small business in the community of Red Willow, near Stettler.

Fire rescue and paramedics were dispatched and the man was airlifted to an Edmonton hospital with critical injuries. He died several hours later.

The victim is from the Stettler area, but his name is not being released at the request of his family.

An investigation into the cause of the accident has been ordered by the Alberta medical examiner and the provincial department of Occupational Health and Safety.
