A chance to walk like an Egyptian

Festivals in Ottawa do many things — gather music lovers, show off what the city has to offer and share cultures.

And this weekend’s Egyptian Festival aims to do exactly that.

In its 12th year, “the purpose of the Egyptian Festival is to integrate the Egyptian community into its Ottawa neighbourhood,” said organizer Sam Abdalla.

“We want to have people get to know the Egyptian background,” he said.

With about 2,000 families calling the capital home, Ottawa has one of the country’s largest Egyptian-Canadian communities, after Toronto and Montreal, said Abdalla, but there’s always room for education, he said.

Held at St. Mary Coptic Orthodox Church tomorrow through Sunday, the festival features information booths, art, children’s games and a marketplace.
