A little pink for Barbie’s 50th

Barbie is celebrating her 50th birthday in style with a one-off hot pink Fiat 500. It’s a car that would make Barbie’s real-life counterpart Paris Hilton weak at the knees, with a pearlescent nail varnish-style paint job, and inside the car features silver laminated Alcantara fabrics, silk yarn floor mats, a set of custom-made lipglosses in bright colours stored in the glove compartment and an LED-lit vanity mirror.

Naturally the car sparkles with crystals: On the hubcaps, window mouldings, aerial, and ion the B-pillar, tracing the shape of Barbie’s famous curvaceous figure.

It seems that it’s not just Paris Hilton — who had her Bentley Continental GT sprayed baby pink — who is inspired by the girlie colour. Ford created a sensation with their 2004 power-pink special edition StreetKa, and the cute metallic-pink Micra C+C convertible that Nissan produced a limited run in support of Breakthrough for Breast Cancer was so popular that they produced another pink car the following year. Maybe there’s a case for adding Barbie pink to the average carmaker’s colour palette.
