Trevor H. moved to Ottawa from Niagara Falls about a year ago looking for a change, but he didn’t bargain on this.
What started out as a desire to have fun developed into an addiction to drugs and alcohol.
“After a while, it turned into a habit,” said Trevor, who didn’t want his last name used. “By the end of the summer, it turned into a need.
“I didn’t want to live like that. Being dependent on a chemical was the worst feeling that I ever had in my life. It brought me to a very low place.”
He ended up at the Ottawa Mission two weeks ago, where he is currently living.
“The staff have helped me in ways I didn’t even know I could be helped,” he said.
This year, Trevor is thankful for “supportive family and friends.”
“If I didn’t have them, the drugs would have taken me down,” he said.
