With natural light from atrium windows, The Hart & Thistle is a pleasant place to watch the action on the Halifax Harbour.

We’re here for lunch. The menu features usual pub fare, but we try the Trio of Dips ($8) — Lime and Chilli Hummus, Kalamata Olive and Sundried Tomato, and Chèvre and Fire-Roasted Red Pepper. With grilled pita bread and corn tortilla chips, it makes a tasty start.

The Lobster Wrap ($14) boasts a refreshing combination — lobster, apple, peas, lettuce, avocado and mango dressing.

Peas appear rarely on a menu, but the colour provides a nice contrast to the lobster.

The meat could be more plentiful, but tastes fresh, and the one slice of avocado is yummy. The accompanying home-cut fries are excellent.

Mocha Broiled Chicken ($14) with chillies and red wine peppercorn butter is served with delicious roasted potato, broccoli and roasted red pepper. The nicely cooked chicken is quite mild.

Our server is pleasant but the wait between courses is long.

More time to enjoy that view.
