He’s the crackerjack tastemaker with the golden touch — famous for his skills at turning fashion trends into reality — lickety-split. It’s called Joe Fresh Style.

She’s the elegant designer of Pink Tartan, the high-end fashion collection with the seriously upmarket price tag.

Joe Mimran delivers a steady stream of fast women’s, men’s and children’s fashion exclusively to Loblaws grocery stores across Canada.

For her label, Kimberley Newport-Mimran creates a high-quality, high-fashion brand that stands shoulder-to-shoulder with top international players in exclusive North American shops.

“This is the personal expression of a designer,” she says. “I have to take this to market and sell it.”

While they approach fashion from very different stances, this high-profile couple, the king and queen of Canadian style, are remarkably similar. And they confess to almost no creative rivalry.

Though the expected pillow talk may wander into next season’s silhouettes and colour palettes, there’s little collusion. And when the inevitable crossover occurs, it’s embraced with humour, says Newport. “I’ll look at him and say, `Why are you doing that? That looks like something I did.’”

They married nine years ago and together they have an eight year old daughter. He has three children from a previous marriage. But they refuse to talk about their age. “Fashion is ageless,” they say.

Newport launched Pink Tartan seven years ago and Mimran, who was the original brains behind Club Monaco, long since sold, started Joe Fresh in 2006.

Tonight during LG Fashion Week they will preview their collection, back to back. She’s on at 8 p.m. He’s on at 9:15 p.m.

Despite the difference entrances into fashion, “we really compliment each other,” says Newport. As a couple they are symbolic of fashion’s current fascination with high-low style, mixing designer clothes with inexpensive finds. “I wear a lot of Joe’s clothes,” says Newport.

“Our aesthetic is very similar. But we also enjoy doing the same things,” she adds.

“We like to travel, collect art, nice wine and good friends,” says Mimran. They even like exercising and shopping and meditating in their detoxing infrared sauna.

Whether it’s lifestyle, health or fashion, they are a trend-driven couple.
