Five young goslings were rescued yesterday from Chinook Centre after their parents apparently abandoned the brood.
Chinook Centre retail manager Paige O’Neill said the fowl are a familiar couple, but leaving their babies is a first.
“They come every year for the last four or five years now and (the same couple of geese) often switch locations, but this was the first year that the babies were abandoned,” said O’Neill.
The mother goose had nested in an earthenware plant pot on the above-ground terrace outside the main food court area at the mall, not accessible to the public.
At about 10:30 a.m, Karen Sandeman of the Canadian Wildlife Rehabilitation Society arrived at the mall and transported the gosling quintet to the Elbow River, where they were immediately taken in by another female goose.
