Abbotsford’s first ‘Con Air’ flight lifts off

The first flight for Abbotsford Police’s “Con Air” relocation program departed Thursday morning with two people on board, bound for Edmonton.

The program will use commercial flights, except in situations where the risk would be too great, and the expense of the seats will be paid by the Abbotsford Police Department.

“The program is based on reciprocal relationships with other communities and the co-ordinated efforts of law enforcement with a view to ensure that individuals are held accountable for their actions despite their relocation to other parts of Canada,” Const. Ian McDonald said in a statement.

The program should make suspects think twice about fleeing their jurisdiction to escape parole or warrants, police said.

There are more than 100 individuals living in Abbotsford that are eligible to be part of this program.
