Accused in cyclist’s death remanded

A 40-year-old Ottawa woman charged in a hit-and-run collision that killed a teenaged boy will remain in police custody.

Samira Mohamed Daoud appeared in court here Saturday and was remanded into custody.

Alex Hayes was riding his bike home Thursday night near the 5700 block of Bank Street when he was struck and killed by a vehicle.

Daoud faces more than a dozen charges including criminal negligence causing death, impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death and failure to stop at scene of accident causing death.
