The campus was on lockdown Thursday.

Mississippi State University said on Twitter on Thursday it had a suspect in custody after an active shooter was reported on campus.

Despite the apprehension of a suspect, the university said there was "no report at this time of any shots that have been fired" and that no injuries had been immediately reported.

On Twitter the college instructed people to "continue to shelter in place until further notice."

"Stay away from campus. Stay inside buildings," it added.
