Actors ready for film festival debut

This year’s 24th annual Edmonton International Film Festival (EIFF) will be a flip experience for local actors Corey Loranger and Anna-Maria LeMaistre.

Previous EIFF goers for many years, these two will soon see what it’s like to watch their faces onscreen in the locally produced feature-length film, The Pharmacist, directed by Chester Sit.

“We’re really happy to be in a local film festival and to have such an excellent calibre of film representing Edmonton,” exclaimed LeMaistre.

However, being a part of the festival means more for the actors than just watching a movie.

“Sometimes with Canadian films you have the problem with the fact that until it’s big in the States, you don’t really acknowledge it in our own communities,” said LeMaistre.

“We have to be proud of the filmmaking in Canada because there’s some really good stuff,” added Loranger.

Festival producer Kerrie Long was excited to see submissions double since last year.

“The audiences in Edmonton really embrace our films,” she said.
