Advertising writers thought it might be amusing to show a kitchen radio poised at the edge of a TTC subway platform, apparently about to jump for lack of good programming.

Advertising writers thought it might be amusing to show a kitchen radio poised at the edge of a TTC subway platform, apparently about to jump for lack of good programming.

“Give your radio a reason to live,” reads the ad copy alongside a Virgin Radio logo.

But the ads have been killed.

The Toronto Public Space Committee, a citizens’ group dedicated to protecting common spaces from commercial influence, didn’t find the poster so amusing and alerted TTC chair Adam Giambrone, who agreed they were “in poor taste.”

The city’s transportation department, which has jurisdiction over bus shelter ads, ordered them removed.`
