Addicts need help with rehabilitation

Re: “Drug plan launched,” Feb. 27:

The father of my first son was addicted to crack for a couple of years and ended up on the Downtown Eastside.

I met some of the other drug-addicted people down there and it’s infuriating to see how drugs have destroyed their lives. When you see a pregnant woman smoking crack you know that this drug has a death grip on these addicts.

It’s not something the government can solve by prescribing pills and especially not by providing a place for them to safely inject drugs. They need to focus on providing a rehabilitation centre that will offer counselling and guidance, such as computer training and work search.

Sure they can quit, but if they are just put out in the world with no guidance, they’re going to end up addicted again because they won’t know what to do next.
