Adopted daughter charged in mom’s death

A New Westminster woman spent Mother’s Day in jail yesterday after being arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the death of her 88-year-old adopted mother.

Junette Page Jobin is accused of murdering Patricia Rose Pelletier, who was found dead in her East Vancouver home on April 19, said Vancouver Const. Lindsey Houghton.

“The cause of death was not readily apparent, but the investigation confirmed it was a homicide,” Houghton said.

“Officers attended a residence in the 3200 block of East 51st Avenue, after a 911 call from family members … who were concerned that they had not seen or heard from (Pelletier) for a few days.”

Pelletier was the widow of Vancouver police Const. Kenneth Pelletier, who died in the 1970s.
Neighbours knew her as a friendly woman who liked to tend to her garden.

Jobin remains in custody. Her next scheduled court appearance is still to be determined.

This is Vancouver’s fourth homicide since Jan. 1, compared to 13 at the same time last year, and 10 in 2008.
