I found it extremely disappointing that the main argument for not installing wind turbines off Toronto's eastern shoreline would be that they are ugly to look at.

I understand that there are rational reasons for not installing them in certain areas some of which include impact to wildlife, safety and noise. However, I don't think that aesthetics should be one of them. It is exactly this sort of attitude that will ruin the environment for future generations, and I would have expected a lot more from a professor who teaches this exact group.

If the author doesn't like the proposed solution to harvest a renewable energy, then she should at the very least suggest an alternative.
