Agencies to help homeless

Calgary’s homeless or citizens at risk of becoming homeless will have the opportunity to get services and support this weekend.

The ninth annual Project Homeless Connect event will serve around 700 homeless people at Suncor Energy Centre Saturday at 8 a.m. and get them help from 40 different agencies along with providing breakfast and hot lunch.

The event is staffed mostly by volunteers, who come away with overwhelmingly positive feedback, said Kathleen Polyak with the Calgary Homeless Foundation who are hosting the event.

“They get a greater understanding of the issues Calgary’s homeless have to deal with,” said Polyak.

The event has, in the past, even helped reunite families after meeting through some of the services.
