An Airdrie RCMP officer has been charged with sexual assault after a five-month investigation that began with a complaint from a 17-year-old female.
Sgt. Patrick Webb said yesterday the young woman came forward on her own to make the complaint, which allegedly involved a two-year period of in-person and Internet contact between her and the officer.
Fifty-year-old Guy Armans Raes was charged yesterday with sexual assault, sexual exploitation of a young person and luring of a child.
He has been suspended with pay from the Airdrie RCMP since the initial complaint was filed in February, Webb said, adding Raes is also the subject of a code of conduct investigation that will be resolved after the criminal charges have been dealt with.
He is scheduled to appear in Airdrie Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 16.
