TORONTO - Alanis Morissette and new husband Mario Treadway are expecting a baby.

The Ottawa singer announced the news via Twitter after discussing the pregnancy in Us magazine.

"yes, happy news....i'm pregnant :)," Morissette wrote on the social networking site on Wednesday morning. "we're so excited to start our family.... xo a."

Morissette married Treadway, who performs as a singer and rapper under the name Souleye, in May.

The 36-year-old Morissette has sold more than 60 million albums and has won seven Grammy Awards and 12 Junos.

She's recently pursued an acting career with appearances on the TV shows "Sex and the City" and "Weeds."
