Alberta girl with serious case of flu ‘recovering well’ in hospital: doctor

CALGARY – A top health official says a young Alberta girl with Canada’s only serious case of swine flu is “recovering well.”

Dr. Andre Corriveau, the province’s chief medical health officer, says the girl is still in an Edmonton hospital but is breathing on her own, although he won’t say if she is in intensive care.

Corriveau also says the province has two more confirmed cases of people contracting the H1N1 virus – a young woman and a boy.

The adult recently travelled in Mexico, while the boy’s parents were also in the Latin American country.

Both are recovering at home.

Ontario reported five new cases, one in Ottawa, one in Toronto and three others in the Toronto area to bring that province’s total to 36.

The new cases in Alberta and Ontario bring to 147 the number of confirmed cases in Canada.
