The Alberta Green party is no more — for now — after they have been de-registered as a political party, according to the leader.
Leader Joe Anglin is “disappointed” by the news but acknowledges financial returns were not filed as required by Elections Alberta, because of infighting within the party.
“This all started last year and unfortunately a few militant members had not turned over the financial records and it’s caused a lot of harm to the party,” Anglin said.
As a result, the party cannot run candidates in the next election but Anglin is hopeful the party can restart with a fresh slate. “It’s a dark cloud but maybe there is a silver lining,” Anglin said, adding the party has become a non-profit society in order to re-establish.
