Alberta hosting big pre-Olympic events

Several World Cup events are being staged in Alberta over the nextseveral weeks. Many will feature athletes from around the worldcompeting for spots in the Games.

Several World Cup events are being staged in Alberta over the next several weeks. Many will feature athletes from around the world competing for spots in the Games.

Admission is free for some events. Check websites for details.

Here’s a list:

• Men’s downhill and super G ski events will be held Nov. 28-29 at Lake Louise, while the women’s races are on Dec. 4, 5 and 7. winterstartworldcup.com

After the races, check out the Winterstart Festival in Banff and Lake Louise.

• The Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings, Dec. 6-13 at Edmonton’s Rexall Place. Will determine which men’s and women’s curling teams will represent Canada at the Winter Games. seasonofchampions.ca/rotr

• The Essent ISU Speed Skating World Cup, Dec. 4-6 at Calgary’s Olympic Oval, with expected stars including Canadians Cindy Klassen and Jeremy Wotherspoon. speedsk8.ca
