Traffic injuries and fatalities in Alberta reached the lowest levels in 2008 since 1995.

Deaths on the road have dropped 10.5 per cent from 2007 and injuries dropped 10.3 per cent, said Alberta Transportation.

However, driver error continues to be a factor in about 90 per cent of collisions.

Also, alcohol continues to be a dangerous factor, causing 22.5 per cent of fatalities.

Alberta Transportation reminds motorists that they play a key role in traffic safety, and is trying to raise awareness through its Traffic Safety Plan campaign.
