Alberta to get $40M for military

Ottawa will be spending $40 million to build new infrastructure for three Alberta military bases, including a new training facility at the Edmonton Garrison, Defence Minister Peter MacKay announced yesterday morning.

“(This) is really another example of our commitment to the Canadian Forces, as well as our commitment to Canadians in terms of building infrastructure and creating jobs in the country,” said MacKay during his announcement at the Garrison.

The new training facility in Edmonton will get the bulk of the funding at $21 million.

And the new facility will provide “necessary” housing for soldiers who are training at the Garrison so that new recruits won’t have to bunk in hotels, said MacKay.
