We’ve all had the urge to flip the bird at drivers who decide to merge instead of yield, or speed up, cut us off — only to jam on the brakes because of the car ahead of them.

Rather than taking matters into their own hands on the roadway, Cameron Hyder invites Alberta drivers frustrated by fellow motorists to take their gripe online at www.platerage.com

"We just realized that every day, no matter what time of day, no matter what city you are driving in, the average person behind the wheel can get so worked up because of other drivers," said the 25-year-old from Calgary.

"We figured we could provide a safe online community so that you can go and vent a bit."

Since launching in September, Hyder said 1,000 users from across North America have signed on to air beefs about belligerent drivers.

Roadies need only log on, free of charge, to the site to rage away at those who have wronged them on the roads.

The Alberta Motor Association’s Don Szarko said he would be interested to see how this type of online "venting" correlates into rage-related incidents over time — but he said it’s just another outlet for people to get the frustration off their chest.

Szarko said the surest way for motorists to handle their anger over aggressive drivers is just to "let it go" — you could be getting more than you bargain for by pursuing it.

"Don’t engage (aggressive drivers) — you don’t know the state of mind of the individual," he said.
