Alec Baldwin bowing out of the Emmys Sunday had nothing to do with a tiff over Rupert Murdoch-related humour.
The actor had allegedly refused to take part in a comedy sketch for the awards show after a joke he planned to make about the News of the World phone-hacking scandal was nixed by the show’s network, Fox.
But Baldwin, who attended Tony Bennett’s birthday party in New York that night, insists that had nothing to do with it.
“I skipped the Emmys because of this — because I wanted to be here,” he told People magazine. “The Emmys have been in August for the last several years, but they moved to this date and I’d already committed to this.”
