Alleged thief takes snowblower for a stroll

Nothing says summer is just around the corner like spending a warm June evening pushing a snow blower down a busy city street.

A 26-year-old is facing charges of break and enter and resisting arrest after Halifax Regional Police say a man was seen pushing a snow blower down Portland Street in Dartmouth around 11 p.m. on Monday.

“It’s not something you see everyday,” police spokesman Const. Brian Palmeter said.

When the officers went to speak to the man about what he was doing, police say he fled the area, but was located a short distance away.

In trying to arrest the suspect, police allege the man then assaulted an officer.

“When the officer attempted to arrest him, he took a swing at him,” Palmeter said. “It doesn’t appear that he hit him, and then a struggle ensued.”

In the course of its investigation, police allege the 26-year-old stole both the snow blower and a bike.

Mark Allan MacDonald, of no fixed address, has been charged with two counts of break and enter and resisting arrest.
