Americans immune to calorie postings

Forcing American restaurants to print calorie levels on menus has done little to change the nation’s eating habits, research has revealed.

Forcing American restaurants to print calorie levels on menus has done little to change the nation’s eating habits, research has revealed.

Price and taste were so powerful motivators they overwhelemed any desire to be healthy, said Dr. Brian Elbel, who carried out the study for New York University. “Labeling is not likely to be enough to influence obesity in a largescale way,” he said.

Elbel says he swung into action after New York City ordered restaurants to include calorie counts.
