Amex axes Halifax call centre

Significant job losses are hitting the city as American Express is closing its Halifax call centre at the end of the month, throwing 87 people out of work.

David Barnes, the company’s vice-president of communications and public affairs, is quoted in several media reports that months of weakening business travel bookings made keeping the Halifax call centre open impossible.

Workers were told last week about the layoffs and the office will be closing its doors on March 27.
