Halifax’s Phil Anderson has his second career Bell and Grant Nova Scotia Open tennis title.

Anderson, who claimed his first championship in 2005, knocked off Bridgewater’s Adam Becker in Saturday’s men’s open final at the Waegwoltic Club in Halifax with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph.

The 20-year-old, a former national 16-and-under outdoor champion and three-time national youth doubles titleholder, is entering his junior year of NCAA Division I tennis at the University of New Mexico at Albuquerque.

He compiled a 16-17 overall singles mark last season and cracked the Mountain West Conference doubles team.

Becker, a former standout at the University of Texas at San Antonio, was looking to win his first Nova Scotia Open title since 2008.

On the women’s side, it was Halifax resident Marijke Nel earning her second straight crown with a 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 win over Amy Sherlock.

In men’s doubles, it was Andrew Oxner and Travis McDonough taking the title, while on the women’s side, it was Michelle Karis and Sandy Mackie.
