Answers about Surrey murders died with Baldini: Mohan

A 21-year-old man who was shot to death in the parking lot of a Surrey mall had ties to the high-profile gangland murder of six men in a highrise two years ago.

Raphael Baldini was gunned down in his car on Tuesday afternoon at Guildford Town Centre.

RCMP Cpl. Dale Carr of the homicide investigation team said Baldini had rented the apartment in Balmoral Tower where six men – four with gang ties and two innocent victims, Chris Mohan and Ed Schellenberg – were shot dead in October 2007.

No one has been arrested in the murders.

Mohan’s mother, Eileen Mohan, told Metro yesterday she’s disappointed that the mystery of what happened in Balmoral Tower has possibly died with Baldini.

“I thought I would have had an opportunity to have my day in court (with him),” she said. “The four people in the apartment were his associates and what transpired that day, no one knows except him.”

Mohan said it’s shocking that a judge released Baldini after he was taken into custody following the murders.

“Did the judge do a service to (Baldini), to the Schellenberg family and to the public at large? There was no justice at all,” Mohan said.

She said we can point fingers as much as we want, but until laws are changed to give victims more rights than criminals, the violence won’t end.
