The petition to repeal the pending HST is being hand-delivered to Elections B.C. in Victoria tomorrow, five days ahead of the deadline.
Chris Delaney, who organized the campaign with former premier Bill Vander Zalm, said they well exceeded the mandatory minimum number of signatures, so it made sense to hand it in early.
If an initiative petition has the support of 10 per cent of voters in all the province’s ridings, it can be brought before the legislature.
The campaign collected more than 15 per cent in most ridings, including 10 Liberal ridings.
“I think there’s a sense of betrayal among the Liberal voters,” he said.
“Everywhere an HST has been brought in (in Canada), that government was defeated.”
