Apartment tenant sought as police investigate gunshot

Halifax Regional Police wants to speak with a 26-year-old male they believe fired a single gunshot inside his apartment that then travelled through the wall of an adjoining apartment.

Staff Sgt. James Butler of HRP said at 9:37 p.m. Saturday night, they were called to a Kencrest Avenue apartment building in Halifax to reports of a shot being fired. When they arrived, they said the 26-year-old who rents the apartment where the shot came from had fled on foot and couldn’t be located.

The tenant of the adjoining apartment was home when they shot was fired, but wasn’t injured.

“There is no reason to believe this was an intentional act towards the resident of that apartment,” Butler said. “There’s no reason to believe this guy was trying to shoot his neighbour.”

Police are continuing to investigate.
