Athletically inclined families celebrate mothers with run

Lots of sporty families got together to kick off a celebration of moms everywhere during the Sport Chek Mother’s Day Run & Walk The event, now in its 15th year, brought out entire families and proceeds benefited the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Gina Foley did the 5K run with her son Adam, 10. It was the first time the pair did a race together. They planned to check out Beauty and the Beast later at the Citadel. “I think it’s a great thing,” Gina said, not far from the finish line at the U of A’s Foote Field. “It sets a good example.”

The Jean family turned out in full force, with dad Rene running the 10K distance, mom Lori and 12-year-old daughter Kelsie participating in the 5K run, and Mackenzie, 9, and her brother Kaiden, 6, doing the 5K walk.

“It’s good to know we accomplished something,” Kelsie said.
