A man with a lengthy criminal history is facing charges including attempted murder in relation to a shooting at a clothing and hairdressing shop in Lower Sackville last month.
Joseph Endelle Chan, 29, is also facing 11 weapons charges and is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court on May 31 for an arraignment hearing.
Chan was arrested by Halifax Regional Police on April 15 when officers allege they noticed a man walking in public with an open beer can.
Police say the man, later identified as Chan, then ran from the officers and attempted to evade them by hiding between parked cars.
Police say they located the man and a brief struggle ensued. A search of the area turned up a handgun and some hash.
That handgun then underwent testing by police and Halifax Royal Canadian Mounted Police said yesterday it was tied to the shooting in Lower Sackville.
In that incident on April 8, police say a man with a bandana or shirt covering his face entered Catch a Look Clothing Barber Shop and got into an argument with a patron.
Police say the man then proceeded to pull out a gun and shots were fired.
The man then fled the area in a red four-door vehicle.
Six people were in the store at the time. There were no injuries.
RCMP spokesman Cpl. Joe Taplin wouldn’t disclose the motive for the shooting, saying “it’s all evidentiary now.”
Chan has been at the Burnside jail since his arrest on April 15.
Since 2000, Joseph Endelle Chan has been found guilty for various offences, among them being robbery, possession of a loaded weapon and resisting arrest.
