Authorities destroy cougar

A problem cougar has been destroyed, Ridge Meadows RCMP said.

The animal was located at about 10 a.m. on Thursday near a Maple Ridge school. Members of the B.C. Conservation Department dogs to track it down.

RCMP Insp. Derren Lench said that because of the cougar’s “activities” near people and homes it had to be euthanized.

“The Conservation officers feel that there was only one cougar in the area, but no one can be 100 per cent certain of that. Therefore we want to caution people in the area to be on the lookout for any cougars,” he said.
