Autopsy set for today, victim ID’d on Facebook

Edmonton’s medical examiner will conduct an autopsy this morning of a man shot to death outside a downtown club Monday.

Police were called to the parking lot near Twilight Afterhours (10018 –- 105 St.) around 8 a.m., where they found a man dead in the front seat of a Jeep Liberty. Another man was rushed to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Friends on a Facebook memorial page identified the victim as Justin Sullivan. By yesterday afternoon, close to 300 joined the group dubbed “We love you and miss you with all our hearts Justin AKA Sully.”

“I can’t believe this is happening, not you. I keep telling myself this isn’t real, this isn’t happening,” one member wrote.

Twilight’s doors opened at 5 a.m. Monday for the official after-party of Frequency, a rave featuring world-renowned DJs Paul Van Dyk and Ferry Corsten held at the Shaw Conference Centre.

It’s unknown if Sullivan attended either party.

Some wandered to nearby Y Afterhours after leaving the Shaw, though Sullivan hasn’t been spotted on the club’s security footage, Y spokesman Marcus Gurske said yesterday.

Though the shooting occurred blocks from Y Afterhours, city police have asked for help from management in putting together pieces from the evening.

“But as far as we know, nothing happened at Y that has anything to do with what happened at Twilight,” Gurske said.

The clubs aren’t affiliated, but violent incidents in and around any after-hours setting influence public perceptions of the sub-culture as a whole, he added.

“The definition of after-hours has changed from what it was 10 years ago to what it is today,” he said. “It’s really easy to paint everybody with one brush. We have worked hard with the city and EPS to be the best in class.”

Twilight management did not return calls to Metro yesterday.
