Avalanche victim was from Edmonton

Mounties say a man who was killed in an avalanche in eastern British Columbia Friday was from Edmonton.

The 33-year-old man’s name is being withheld by the RCMP at the request of the man’s family.

Mounties in Valemount, B.C., about 500 km west of Edmonton, say seven people were snowmobiling in the Monashee Mountains when they were caught by a slide was triggered around 1 p.m.

Two were buried in the snow, but they were eventually dug out, say Mounties who confirmed all had proper avalanche gear, including beacons.

RCMP say one of the two men was not breathing and he could not be revived.

Avalanches have claimed 15 lives in Western Canada this winter.
