Aviation and space museum flies high

Outside of downtown, the Canada Aviation and Space Museum was the place to be for thousands of people on Canada Day yesterday.

The free open house at the museum began with a meet-and-greet with astronaut and former CF-18 fighter pilot Chris Hadfield.

Visitors were also able to go for flights in several of the vintage planes outside the museum.

Orleans residents Marguerite Bujold and Jerry Hamelin took advantage of the offer to experience Canada Day from the sky, but were disappointed they couldn’t get near Parliament Hill.

Normally it’s not a problem, said pilot Greg Reynolds, but due to the Queen’s visit, airspace around Parliament Hill had been restricted.

“I’m coming back. That’s why I wanted to go up today,” said Bujold. “But it was great. I would recommend that people do it, if they get the opportunity.”

“When you turn, you look over and see the water and whole city. It was great,” said Hamelin.
