More than 1,000 Avril Lavigne fans shivered in near white-out conditions as they waited for the Canadian pop singer to hit the stage an hour late at Burnaby’s Swangard Stadium yesterday.
Lavigne was in town promoting Best Buy’s new Burnaby store on Kingsway. She hit the stage in a warm, puffy coat and toque accompanied by several lithesome backup dancers who gyrated to cuts from Lavigne’s latest disc, The Best Damn Thing.
David Black waited in a long lineup that stretched around the stadium’s outer perimeter before the free show and despite the cold and snow, was still psyched to see the spunky 22-year-old perform.
"I’m just glad to be able to see Avril here."
Jessica Hasson had no idea Lavigne was playing, and was surprised by her father when he brought her to the stadium.
"I was dumbstruck," the 11-year-old said.
"I got her last CD the first day it came out."
