Renee Thorpe holds her daughter who was born yesterday.

The baby was coming. There was no way to make it to the hospital in time, so their daughter was born in the front seat of the car.

Father Renaldo Scully and fiancée Renee Thorpe, both 25, had arrived at the Humber River Regional Hospital yesterday around 2:30 a.m., they said. Thorpe’s baby wasn’t due until Valentine’s Day, but the second-time mom was in a lot of pain and recognized the signs of labour so they came in. But hospital staff recommended she go home, take a shower and relax.

Rihanna Alexis Scully, about five pounds, made her grand entrance in the front of her father’s Lexus, parked on the side of the road around Highway 427 near Dundas, around 4 a.m.
