Backstrom continues dominance over Oil

THE SKINNY: The Wild ran their winning streak against the Oilers on home ice to 10 straight games thanks to a pair of goals by Owen Nolan and a 31-save performance by Niklas Backstrom. The Oilers went 0-for-5 on the power play as they had a three-game winning streak end.

THE BIG PLAY: It was scoreless in the second period when Nolan got a handle on a loose puck in a scramble in Edmonton’s goal crease on a power play. Nolan tapped it past Dwayne Roloson to put Minnesota up 1-0 at 14:26.

HE OWNS THEM: Backstrom has never lost to the Oilers at home. With this win, he upped his record to 10-0 with four shutouts against Edmonton at the Xcel Energy Center.

REDDOX OUT: Forward Liam Reddox sat this one out with a concussion after being blindsided by Ben Eager in Chicago Friday. Eager has been slapped with a three-game suspension by the NHL for the incident.

THE NEXT GAME: The Oilers host the Detroit Red Wings Tuesday.
