A limit on trash bags won’t be in place in Calgary until 2012.

When implemented, Calgarians will have to pay for each additional bag of garbage. Ald. Ric McIver, who proposed the motion, said we shouldn’t be waiting three years to reduce the amount of garbage.

“A bag limit program now would cost less in the long run and would keep a lot of garbage out of the landfills,” he said.

A motion by McIver to have alternating weeks of recycling and garbage pick-up to save money was also voted down.
