Banks earns wire-to-wire win for crown

Eric Banks wrapped up a wire-to-wire win at the Nova Scotia Golf Association junior (ages 10 to 18) championship yesterday in Dartmouth.

Banks became the first Truro member in 40 years to capture the provincial junior crown, firing a 4-over 72 to hold off Matt Gallupe from the host Brightwood Golf and Country Club.

Banks’s opening two rounds of 68 and 67 carried him to the one-stroke victory.

Gallupe, Ken-Wo’s Ally Tidcombe and Grandview’s Andrew Reid each shot 2-over 70s yesterday to round out the top four with three-day totals of 208, 209 and 210.

That quartet will represent the province at the Canadian junior boys championship in Richmond, B.C., from Aug. 2 to 6.

Romkey takes title
Grandview’s Emily Romkey nabbed the NSGA junior girls title yesterday.

The 15-year-old from Fall River wrapped up the event with a final-round 81 to finish four strokes ahead of the rest of the 12-player field.
