Bar Watch tavern shot up, spray painted

An Earls Restaurant in Chilliwack that’s part of the Bar Watch program was shot with bullet holes and spray painted with a threat to Bar Watch members.

The graffiti stated, “Bar Watch Member(s) will die. 1 down and 12 go.” RCMP Cpl. Peter Thiessen said police believe the restaurant was targeted late Thursday or early Friday. No one was injured.

The Bar Watch program is a partnership between clubs, bars and restaurants, and police to curb gang activity and help officers identify gang members and their hangouts.

Participating establishments use metal detectors and ID scanners at the doors and allow police inside uninvited to escort known gangsters from the building.

“There have been a number of instances in the past year of gang members being asked to leave establishments participating in Bar Watch Program in the Chilliwack area,” Thiessen said.

“This incident speaks to the success of the Bar Watch Program in removing undesirables from restaurants and bars.”
