Bay LRT station gets a new name

The name of a downtown Edmonton landmark was forever changed, and one year later, the LRT station underneath will follow suit.

City council decided yesterday that Bay Station will be named Enterprise Square Station.

The old Hudson’s Bay Building (10230 Jasper Ave.) was purchased by the University of Alberta — and renamed Enterprise Square — when the school took over the space last January.

Mayor Stephen Mandel supported the change, because he feels the current naming is confusing to new riders.

The change of signs in the station will be billed to the university.

Names on maps and pamphlets will not be changed immediately, but will be changed in the regular printing schedule.

The project is expected to cost $25,000.
