Beach gets trashy after fireworks

Spectators left behind an estimated 10,000 kilograms, 22,000 pounds, of garbage after the first night of the Celebration of Light festival, according to the City of Vancouver.

“The amount of garbage left on the beach was comparable to previous years, but less than what used to be left behind a decade ago,” said Todd Harris, the supervisor of sanitation for the Vancouver Park Board. He added that almost all drink containers picked up were placed in 25 blue box recycling bins.
