The Halifax Mooseheads have good news and bad news on the injury front heading into the weekend.
Rookie right-winger Jessyko Bernard, who has missed the past two games with a groin injury, is expected to return to the lineup, but top-scoring defenceman Justin Pender will remain on the shelf with a troublesome knee injury.
The Herd is also being cautious with rookie goalie Mathieu Corbeil. Sources say he’s been playing with a hand injury since Jan. 4, and while he’s healthy enough to be a backup, Mark Yetman will start until he’s better.
Recent acquisition Guillaume Pelletier (knee) remains sidelined and won’t be back for a few more weeks. The Mooseheads play the Bathurst Titan on Saturday at 7 p.m. and the Moncton Wildcats on Sunday at 4 p.m.
• Former Mooseheads goalie Pier-Olivier Pelletier has found a home in the university ranks. Pelletier, who had a disappointing year with the Mooseheads in 2007-08, was unable to land pro work and has joined the Waterloo Warriors.
• The last-place Val-d’Or Foreurs have claimed Alexi Pianosi off waivers from the Victoriaville Tigres. The 19-year-old defenceman from Halifax has a goal and 10 assists in 43 games.
