Police are warning businesses in Langley to be on the look out for fake cash after someone tried to exchange $4,500 in counterfeit U.S. bills at a local Money Mart.
RCMP Const. Holly Marks said on Tuesday a female customer tried to exchange the money — which was all in $50 bills — on Saturday.
“The staff at Money Mart completed some simple tests and determined the money to be counterfeit,” Marks said. “The money was returned to the customer who then left the business.”
Langley RCMP is investigating the incident, and Marks said businesses in the area should be extra vigilant when accepting $50 bills.
“Please perform simple tests on larger U.S. currency to determine their authenticity,” Marks said.
