Officials say a search-and-rescue team determined no one was trapped when an underground parking garage suddenly collapsed Thursday in Windsor.

An emergency was declared so city officials could call in a provincial urban search-and-rescue team from Toronto.

A man in his 20s was sent to hospital after being injured in the collapse.

The man was in a crane boom platform on top of the garage at the time of the collapse.

But he was conscious when emergency personnel arrived.

However, a 35-unit apartment building adjacent to the garage was evacuated because of structural concerns.

Officials say the residents will be put up in a downtown Windsor hotel while engineers examine the building’s structure and safety.

Windsor Mayor Eddie Francis said there was no word when the area will again be open to the public.
