Big names missing from Sens roster for Metro Centre tilt

If you’re a fan of the Florida Panthers, you’ll likely get to see plenty of the team’s best talent tonight at the Halifax Metro Centre. Ottawa Senators fans, however, might not be so lucky.

The Senators’ tentative roster for the 7 p.m. NHL pre-season tilt is missing its most recognizable faces, including Jason Spezza, Alexei Kovalev, Daniel Alfredsson and Mike Fisher.

The Panthers, who opened training camp in Port Hawkesbury on the weekend, are expected to dress the likes of Nathan Horton, David Booth, Stephen Weiss and Keith Ballard.

“It’s a chance for us to assess the talent we have, identify our strengths and weaknesses and give our guys a chance to come together as a team and get ready for the season,” said Panthers assistant general manager Randy Sexton.

Halifax Mooseheads greats David Brine (Florida) and Alexandre Picard and Pascal Leclaire (Ottawa) are also on the tentative rosters.
